Daphne vs. Fairhope Football

DAPHNE (3-0) AT THEODORE (2-1)

Time/location: 7 p.m. Friday, C.A. Douglas Field, Theodore

Last week: Daphne defeated Fairhope 41-13; Theodore defeated Alma Bryant 28-0.

Class 7A, Region 1 records: Daphne 2-0; Theodore 2-0

On the air: None.

The skinny: Daphne was impressive in its home win over Fairhope last week. TCU commit Trent Battle was 8-of-10 for 201 yards and 3 touchdowns before coming out of the game late in the third quarter. He also ran for 82 yards and a score. Tyler Bradley ran for 90 yards and 2 scores on just seven carries. Jeh Holmes caught three passes for 113 yards and a TD and Kaden Blackwell and Travis Crum each had TD receptions. … Theodore, playing without the injured Kierstan Rogers for the second straight game, pulled away from Alma Bryant. Landon Hirtreiter threw a pair of touchdown passes, while T.J. Richardson rushed for 164 yards and a score and Ryheem Quinney ran for a TD and caught a scoring pass for Theodore, which scored on drives of 80, 44, 43 and 38 yards…. The teams played a non-region game last year with Theodore winning 35-21. … Daphne is trying to go 4-0 for the first time since 2011.

HILLCREST-EVERGREEN (2-1) AT BAYSIDE ACADEMY (3-0)

Time/location: 7 p.m. Friday, Freedom Field, Daphne

Last week: Hillcrest-Evergreen defeated Chickasaw 40-19; Bayside Academy defeated Excel 42-0.

Class 3A, Region 1 records: Hillcrest Evergreen 1-0; Bayside Academy 1-0.

On the air: None.

The skinny: Hillcrest is coming off a 40-19 victory at Chickasaw last week. The Jaguars will be playing their third road game of the year. They’ve yet to play at home after Pike County forfeited a scheduled Week 2 game. … Bayside is playing a home game for the first time after three straight road trips. The Admirals have been impressive in beating Escambia County, Houston Academy and Excel by a combined score of 112-3. The Admirals have run for 810 yards and 10 TDs in three games. They are led by RB Jay Loper (244 yards, 4 TDs), WB Steadman Jones (214 yards, 3 TDs) and QB Zach Kittrell (12-of-23, 257 yards, 5 TDs, 0 INT. He also has run for 133 yards and 2 TDs). … Bayside leads the overall series with Hillcrest 3-2 but lost the last meeting between the two teams 35-7 in 2017. Phil Lazenby has won 95 games in 14 years at Bayside and 180 in 24 years as a head coach overall.

Elberta vs. Robertsdale. Week 2. High School Football

SPANISH FORT (1-2) AT ROBERTSDALE (3-0)

Time/location: 7 p.m. Friday, J.D. Sellers Stadium, Robertsdale

Last week: Spanish Fort received a forfeit victory from Gulf Shores and then defeated Park Crossing 10-7 in a game of no record; Robertsdale defeated Citronelle 14-13.

Class 6A, Region 1 records: Spanish Fort 1-0; Robertsdale 1-0

On the air: None.

The skinny: The Toros are looking for their first official on-the-field win of the season. Ben Blackmon’s team opened the season with losses to Fairhope and St. Paul’s before receiving a forfeit win from Gulf Shores last week. (The Dolphins couldn’t play because of COVID-19 concerns). Spanish Fort scheduled a late game of no record with Park Crossing and won 10-7. The Toros are led by Oregon LB commit Christian Burkhalter and Virginia DB commit Micah Gaffney. Sophomore QB Brendon Byrd triggers the offense. … Robertsdale is 3-0 for the first time since 1995 when Fred Riley was the head coach. Last week at Citronelle, Logan Wilson returned a kickoff for a TD and Glen Williams scored a rushing touchdown. The Golden Bears’ Wing-T offense is led by RB Taven Curry. The Golden Bears haven’t been 4-0 since 1984. … Robertsdale has never beaten Spanish Fort, going 0-for-6. The Golden Bears were outscored 298-52 in those games.

McAdory at St. Paul’s football

UMS-WRIGHT (2-1) AT ST. PAUL’S (3-0)

Time/location: 7 p.m. Friday, E.E. Delaney Stadium, Mobile

Last week: UMS-Wright defeated LeFlore 25-6; St. Paul’s defeated Williamson 28-12

Class 5A, Region 1 records: UMS-Wright 1-0; St. Paul’s 1-0

On the air: Sports Talk 99.5; WNSP-FM 105.5; WJTC-UTV 44

The skinny: UMS-Wright bounced back from its first loss in 35 games with a win over LeFlore. Cole Blaylock rushed for 126 yards on 17 carries, scoring on runs of 18 and 22 yards. QB Trey Singleton threw a touchdown pass to Jay Lawrence. Singleton was 12-of-14 for 170 yards overall. Colby Stafford caught seven passes for 101 yards. Terry Curtis is 242-50 in 22 years at UMS. … St. Paul’s defeated Williamson last week to start region play 1-0. The Saints got a pair of TD runs and an interception from Army commit Javonte Graves-Billips. Zack Gray scored on an 11-yard run and Tyjuan Able had a 1-yard run. Steve Mask is 90-21 in nine years at St. Paul’s. … UMS leads the Battle of Old Shell Road series 21-20 and has won four of the last five games between the teams. The Bulldogs won 18-13 a year ago at Cooper Stadium. This is the first time the teams will meet as region rivals since 2007.

Vigor vs W.S. Neal Football

VIGOR (2-0) AT JACKSON (2-1)

Time/location: 7 p.m. Friday, Legion Field, Jackson

Last week: Vigor defeated W.S. Neal 20-12; Jackson defeated St. Michael 43-14

Class 4A, Region 1 records: Vigor 1-0; Jackson 1-0

On the air: None.

The skinny: Key battle between Region 1 title contenders. First-year coach John McKenzie got his first on-the-field victory at Vigor last week when the Wolves rallied to down W.S. Neal. Brennan Maye-Jordan was 13-of-21 for 206 yards. He threw touchdown passes of 73 yards and 12 yards to Kristopher Agee, who finished with six catches for 123 yards. Michael Towner scored on a 2-yard run. The defense was led by Abraham Daniels with 14 tackles, eight for a loss, and two sacks. … The Aggies bounced back from a loss to rival Clarke County with a convincing win over St. Michael. Jamal Pritchett had two receptions for 162 yards and a score. Tylen Campbell had five receptions for 153 yards and 2 TDs and a kick return for 75 yards and a score. QB Walter Taylor was 11-of-17 overall for 322 yards and 3 TDs.
